A bitter sweet day yesterday as one of my favorite jazz singers of all time,

Etta James

passed away.

Also we had 10 additional inches of snow fall which made traveling almost impossible. Took more than 3 hours to get home (keep in mind it's a 20 min drive).

I have been battling the flu the last couple of days but finally feel a little better today. This is good as this is my birthday week and it would be bad to get sick on your birthday, right?

Hope your Sunday was super. I spent the afternoon at the nail salon getting a new technique performed on my nails. I have the ability to grow nails but they are so brittle most times they are in disarray. So I visit the salon once a month for maintenance.

Got something called sea shells applied and I have to admit I like it.

Happy Monday.

It's bittersweet for me.... today is the last day of vacation. I love my job and ever so grateful to have one but it sure was nice being off for 14 days!

I decided to get a jump on Valentine cards.

This uses dp from K&Companys "Smitten Heart Stripe" and the sentiment is a cut out from "Sweet Talk Postage Stamps"; a spica glitter pen and misc scrap cardstock

Hope you all had a Merry Christmas and are planning for a happy and safe new year!

Not much blogging going on as I -- like most of you -- are spending this time with family and relaxing.

I did take a little time to play along with the ladies at LESSology for their Frame of Life challenge.

I've had some of those $1 frames just waiting to be altered and I needed a birthday gift for a co-worker who has a quote taped to her pc, so I thought it would be nice if I printed it on dp and framed it with "a few" flowers.

$1 unpainted frame from Michaels, craft paint, misc. flowers from my stash, sizzix leaves die, MME dp, unknown quote, pearls were rescued from a gift bag my Mom was about to throw away!

I seriously need a new camera.... I am not liking the two different colors this appears to have (bottom is more true).

Simply Create Too day and the new challenge is SHAPE IT UP! So we want to see your dies and punches ..... as many or as few as you like to use. It's a two week challenge so you have until January 6, 2012 (wow can't believe it's going to be 2012!!!!)

This is also for the 3rd week of the Riddersholm Designs 4 week Christmas card sketch challenge. Pop over there and check out the fabulous sketch. You'll see that I rotated it just a smidge and I really love the non-traditional Christmas color

DP from a box of pre-made cards that I cut to make two panels, scallop die, Spellbinders edge die, Sizzix embossing folder, bakers twine, snowflake from a card I received and I used a circle punch to cut it out, ribbon is American Crafts premium and the clear snowflakes are from my stash.

The last two weeks have flown by and it's already time for challenge #2 at Simply Create Too. For this round all you need to do is emboss! That's it ~ simple as pie! So get out the dies and folders and submit your projects.

Wonderful Sunday evening all! It's been a busy weekend for me cleaning the house for the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday which I am hosting this year, cleanign the yard of remaining leaves and watching the Bears beat-up on the Lions.... it's been a good day.

My little brother ~ he's really 3 years older but since I don't have a little brother this is what I tell people~ lol) is having a birthday this week and I made this card for him.

Love You Bear-y Much

Today is Simply Create day which means there's a new two week challenge posted. As you can tell from the title your cards, layout, altered item, or whatever you fancy to make should include at least one bear. I am "trying" to make most of my Christmas gifts, especially things I need for work, neighbors and my bowling pals. One of the things I've made so far are these cute mini pocket albums from one 12x12 sheet. I switched from Little Princess paper to this cute bear paper I had and made one for the challenge. Since mini albums are something new for me I am also entering the Fashionista Friday challenge #96 and how fitting the sponsor is Beary Scrap!

Happy Sunday even thou it's almost over and another glorious week of work starts tomorrow. Had a beautiful day weather wise and I did a doubles bowling tournament with my brother ..... by the way he bowled a 300 game on Friday night.... woo hoo!!

I am an avid reader of Laurel's blog so while there today I see the Wee Memories "Free for all" challenge and decided to play along.

I saw a template for a box on StampTV and thought it would be fun to try.

I also added 4 of these note cards {I guess you would call them note cards ??}. It turned out really cute and I will be making more real soon.

I will try to photo the inside of the box but it's a little difficult to keep open ..... stayed tuned

Shades of Black @ Simply Create

Ready for a new two week challenge? Simply Create wants to see different shades of black. Halloween is only a couple of weeks away and I for one don't go for the eerie or spooky stuff but love the fun and cherry aspects of this time of year. Why not make a Halloween card for a neighbor or a special kid?

So here's what I did. I saw a tut on YouTube and wanted to try it. This is the card with the insert inside

LESSology #2

Decided to throw my hat in the ring for the 2nd LESSology challenge "THE TRINKET BOX". You may know that I have a Keurig coffee brewer in my office and I usually keep my K-cups in a basket in a drawer. Well I've had this receipe card file sitting in my kitchen {collecting dust} so I decided to repurpose it. I painted it a chocolate brown, added some dp, flowers and stickers and now have a cute box that holds about 18 k-cups!

I added a knob that was salvaged from an old table I had and tied a piece of sheer ribbon for easy opening

This card I created for the Freshly Brewed Month Long September Challenge to use Something New. Well I attended a crop over the weekend and there was a 'mini expo' where I purchased some paper and cardboard stickers from Authentique.

I used this weeks sketch at Unscripted Sketches but I rotated it due to all I could see was a postage stamp!

I also incorporated the CR84FN bright pink, grey and black color challenge

Happy Friday evening! While lurking around blogland I found THIS tut by Tracy MacDonald at The Kraft Journal and decided to try my hand at making a mini album. I must say this totally surprised me how easy it was and how quickly it came to be using a mix of Basic Grey Pyrus and Curio dps.

Feels Good....

Last night I put together two cards that I'd like to share with you.

First is Card Patterns {sketch 129} and Make It Monday {anything goes}

Paper is BG Oxford, Spellbinders dies, SU ribbon, BG pearls and misc flowers.

Next is for FTL 154 {sketch}, LIM {things that move} and CAS-ual Friday {embossing} challenges

I again used BG Oxford dp, TH embossing folder, Lacey Circles die, EK Success butterfly punch, misc. buttons.

When I was reorganizing I found tons of scraps I'd been "saving" with the thought to use them one day. Well I don't think I will craft long enough to use all the scraps I have. I saved the larger pieces but tossed all others. So from here onward I will attempt to make at least two projects with the papers I cut. Hopefully this will eliminate the mountain of scraps that seems to grow and grow and grow .....

NEW SPACE and a chance to win!!!!!

HI ALL,

It's taken more than a month and I am still not completely done but since I know you all are anxious to see my new crafty space I've taken some photos. It didn't turn out exactly the way I pictured. As some of the pieces I purchased from IKEA were returned beause they did not fit my needs.

This is exciting for me as now I can get back to creating and my house is finally free of dust!

This is wall storage I added for my 6x6 pads, ribbons, embossing folders, etc.

My storage pantry that holds more stamps, 12x12 paper/pads/kits and all my embellishments

I also have additional space in a closet that's behind the wall where the storage pantry sits. In there I have all seasonal items, my sewing machine, Cricut (which I don't use), things I hope to alter one day and all my crochet supplies.

As I said it's not complete but it's a drastic improvement from what it used to be. Oh yeah you can sorta see the new floor too!

Flashback Friday 14.0

Helloooooooooooo! Getting ever so close to having my scrappy space back in working order. Had to change out some pieces that didn't do what I needed them to do. ~AND~ I just did not realize I had SO MUCH stuff! Right now I have two boxes (the kind that holds the reams of copy paper) full of new and gently used items so look for some give-a-ways in the near future.

Now what I am really here for,

On Hiatus

In case you are wondering I am still here. Doing major renovation to my lower level with new floor, new leather furniture and a NEW SCRAP SPACE!!!!! Busy removing carpet, painting and installing hardwood floors. I purchased a new set-up for my scrap room from IKEA and compared to the odds and ends stuff I had before I will be in scrap heaven. Once complete I will post pictures ---- wish I had taken before pics.

That's right ~ no card because of the challenge at Do More With Less. The Guest Designer for this challenge is the oh so talented Angi Barrs. She has challenged us to create our own gift packaging. I buy these kraft bags (12 for $1) and usually punch a mega circle, maybe add some dp and stamp a sentiment when I need one for a gift. This time I did a little more decorating and went sorta vintage using the Super Sunday Sketch at 365 Cards [even added a tag~which I never do]

BG Out of Print dp, MS butterfly punch, all other embellies are misc stuff from my stash.

The new two week challenge at Simply Create is on-line and we are asking to see your SILHOUETTE. I have never been a fan of these but after searching so many sites for an image to go with my sentiment... I know backwards... I sorta like the effect.

My image is from Karen's Whimsy where there are dozens of free downloads. DP and sentiment sticker is 'out of print' from BG, Fiskars butterfly punch, scallop and square dies, corner rounder punch, wrinkle ribbon from Sherry, bling from my stash.

Today is My Grafico feature day and Steampunk Stamps are the showcase. Are these not just the cutest?

I absolutely fell in love with the hot air ballon and used it to make my card. The sketch is by the talented Ann Seleshanko at Sketches: Creatively Yours and My Creative Moments wanted scallops.

DP is Stella & Rose "Hattie", I printed the hot air balloon on kraft cs and cut around with my cloud deco scissors and the pearls are from my stash.

I arrived back from my bowling trip to Syracuse and it was unsuccessful to say the least. By far my worst ever bowling in tournament play. But I enjoyed the moment and there's always next year.......

I am so excited!!!!!!!! I attended my nephew Myles' college graduation in Missouri this past weekend and spent a couple of days with my sister there. We were talking about the different aspects of crafting and I asked her if she would do some stitching on a few pieces of card stock for me to use. I felt bad asking knowing she recently purchased a digital machine. So she goes to her craft room and comes back with a case and says "it's yours"! {no not the digital} but the one her MIL had given her when she first moved cause she has arthiritis and couldn't use the machine anymore. I had no idea my sister had 5 yes FIVE sewing machines. So after a quick lesson which turned into 3 hours I learned how to sew! Sorta... Yipee!!! So with all that here's my first card with actual stitching on an actual sewing machine which is the 365 Cards sketch for Day 75 and Alice's stitching challenge at Do More With Less

I may have to enlist the help of the QUEEN of stitching to completely master this but I am happy I was able to do this much!

Tonight I felt I had to make a card totally out of the box. I had this butterfly flower thingy sitting on my workstation and really wanted to use it. I thought a vintage style card was in order.

First I would like to wish all a very Happy Easter tomorrow. DH and I will spend the day with my parents starting with Sunrise Services at their church which we have attended since I was a wee little tot, then we go for brunch, visit the cemetery and come home to a big family dinner. Hope you have planned time to spend with family and friends on this blessed holiday.

Found a little time to play with some challenges today. I am lovin' the Less Is More challenges and the new one is no exception. The recipe "challenge" is off center. What is that you may ask? Here's what Chrissie and Mandi had to say:

"We are looking for cards with little or no symmetry but perfect balance, which doesn't necessarily mean gems in all four corners, or any corners for that matter."

This is my second post today (I had the day off, yippee!). If you want to see the Simply Create post scroll down.

Wanted to try something new, so while I was playing around with some scraps I remembered that my Grandmother always wore hats. So using a circle and scallop oval die I came up with a "bonnet".

Kraft card base, Sizzix birds and wreath embossing folder, heat embossing, Studio G sentiment, scallop oval and circle dies, ribbon, swarovskis and flower from my stash.

Challenges:

Get Sketchy ~ sketch (sorta)

If the Shoe Fits ~ recipe (2 dies, embossing, clear bling) CLOSED!

OVA Easter Tag

This is my first time taking part in the Our Vintage Affair challenge. The charge this week is a vintage Easter tag and this image had to be used

Unfortunately I think my camera is about to die as the words on the photo can be seen IRL but does not show up too well in the photo

LIMettes ~Less is More~ current challenge called for a one layer card with the sentiment as the focus. Was this ever a challenge -- as I wanted to reach for papers, ribbons, flowers and all the foo foo. But this is the end result........

The sentiment is one I got in a grab bag of stamps from my LSS a few years ago, it has no name so I don't know the make, PTI cs, Jenni Bowling butterfly, Stampabilities flourish, SU ink and misc pearls. TFL!

So a couple of weeks ago I won an RAK from Gloria. Just want to take a minute to say if you are lucky enough to ever win one of her RAKs you are in for a real treat! The package was filled with goodies I can't wait to use. So in honor of Ms. G I used (what else?) this Tuesday Sketch over at Christian Paper Crafts

and came up with this card, that is already enroute to my friend Barb who's DH was just diagnosed with cancer

See that cutie patootie blossom? That was included in my parcel, ain't it just devine? Other elements are Sentimental Sunday sentiment, lacey circles nestie, Kaiser Kraft pearls, and BG Marjolaine paper.

Eggs... really?

The new challenge at Simply Create has started and it is ALL ABOUT EGGS for the next two weeks and with Easter upon us this is very appropriate. However this theme moves you, please link your creation(s) as we would love to see the different takes on this challenge.

For my card I used an image and framed sentiment from The Cutting Cafe and I cut out the image ~that I attempted to color with pencils~ using an oval nestie; I faux stitched in three corners; tied gingham ribbon and added some sticky gems from my stash.

I also enter this into the coloring challenge Tesa is hosting at Do More with Less

My Grafico ~ Happy Easter

Welcome to My Grafico Monday here at the o'blog! This week we are celebrating Easter with this cute image by Dilek Design Studio.

Well I tried coloring but it is hopeless, I then tried paper piecing but flat ran out of time to do it justice so another b/w image with a little pc generated hair and skin color (unfortunately the photo didn't take very well as there was no sun out today).

On a personal note ~

My uncle, who has been suffering from kidney and liver failure was the receipient of both organs on Saturday! The transplant surgery lasted more than 15 hrs but was successful and he is now in stable condition. Although we do not know who the donor was, may the Lord bless and keep his family.

~AND~

One of my sister's 3 beloved Daschunds, Easter, went to doggie heaven on Friday. She was 16+ years old and had been sick for awhile and now she is out of pain. RIP Easter.
